Happened across jo-engine on Sega-16 a couple weeks back and gave it a try out of curiosity. I don't have any prior experience with C coding, but after looking at the sample projects and the various bits of documentation hosted here everything seemed to click. Now I'm hooked.

I've always been interested in classic consoles but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to make something for one. It's pretty fun learning about the system architecture and the basics of managing assets in memory. And who knows, maybe I'll have something to show for it soon!
